Giffnock Theatre Players are gearing up for their first production of their 71st season as a leading force in amateur drama – not just in the Southside but well beyond.
The play which has been chosen is The Cripple Of Inishmaan by Martin McDonagh.
And in a change from their normal venue the club is travelling across town to Websters Theatre in Great Western Road, formerly Lansdowne Church.
Member David Pearson explains: “The Cripple of Inishmaan is a dark comedy set on the small community of Inishmaan off the Western Coast of Ireland in 1934, where the inhabitants are excited to learn of a Hollywood film crew’s arrival in neighbouring Inishmore to make a documentary about life on the islands.
“Cripple” Billy Claven, eager to escape the gossip, poverty and boredom of Inishmaan, decides to try for a part in the film………”
The play premiered in 1996 with the 2013 West end run starred Daniel Radcliffe and was a sellout. The production transferred to Broadway the following year.
Now GTP bring it to Glasgow’s West End.
David said: “Webster’s is a comfortable 182-seater theatre just across from Kelvinbridge Underground. It has a delightful bar/bistro area.
“We hope to reach out to new audiences with this move and hope everyone enjoys The Cripple Of Inishmaan. It has moments of great pathos but also some hilarious dialogue and some very funny characters!”
David emphasises GTP’s ticketing offer.
He said: “Our next two plays are the classic Dial M for Murder in January and then The Diary of Anne Frank at the end of April.
If readers sign up for all three plays they will get a ticket for all three shows for £35 (or two shows for £25)
The Cripple of Inishmaan is being presented from Wednesday, October 31 to Saturday, November 3 at 7.30pm, with a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm
Tickets are £15 (£13 concession) and can be purchased by phoning 07518 201756 or by emailing email@example.com.
Tickets may also be purchased from Websters Theatre on 041 357 4000.
