With stories of successes and setbacks Queen’s Park Arena has been at the heart of the city’s southside since the 1890’s.
Entering a new phase of her colourful journey, the Arena is now in the safe hands of the socially conscious events solution company Inhouse who want to develop and maximise the venue for the benefit of the southside Community,
To that end, they want to hear the views of and meet the southsiders who will be using the Arena.
Interested parties are warmly invited to an open afternoon of Q&A’s on Friday, December 2 from 2-4pm at their HQ in The Savings Bank, 67 Bridge Street.
This is a Q&A session with a difference, Inhouse want to ask the questions and have Southsiders give them the answers. Inhouse are reassuring those who can’t make it along, that their voices can still be heard via online surveys.
Queen’s Park Arena has been through many phases since its original construction in the 1890s. Better known back then as the Queen’s Park Bandstand, by 1912 it was relocated to its current site in the park.
In 1930 the original ornate wrought iron bandstand was replaced and the amphitheatre style seating, a more familiar sight to today’s southsider, created. A popular destination for events throughout the twentieth century, the bandstand burned down in 1996.
The local community and the community councils surrounding the park weren’t about to give up. The charity Queen’s Park Arena Ltd was formed and after much effort the bandstand was given a fresh lease of life and in 2012 a newly refurbished Queen’s Park Arena was launched to the public. But not for long! Scottish Water’s recent consolidation works in Queen’s Park have meant restricted public access.
With Scottish Water vacating the site early in 2017, southsiders are over the moon that their beloved Queen’s Park Arena will be a beating community heart once again.
