A young Newton Mearns actress is set to take the acting world by storm after winning a prestigious award.
Briony Monroe (19), a former Eastwood High School pupil, scooped the Best Lead Actress award at the 2017 Raptor Filmz Short Scottish Film Festival.
Hailed as the Scottish Oscars for short films, Briony starred in the piece Eggshells, her first lead role.
Briony said: “Ever since I was just eight years old, I’ve been enthralled with the business of acting.
“This is the biggest passion in my life!”
The teenager who is currently honing her craft by studying in college, working toward a acting and performance degree and with UK Theatre School for the completion of her LAMDA exams, is no stranger to the stage or screen.
She has performed on stage with ‘Limelight’ in The Netherlands, East Renfrewshire Youth Theatre and The UK Theatre School, and set the small screen alight with stints in Waterloo Road, The Glasgow Girls, Eve and the December 2014 YouView TV Commercial.
She also performed a one woman piece to NMCC a couple of years ago, made doubly difficult by the presence of Eastwood High head teacher Stuart Maxwell and the head of drama.
At 14, she also raised £2000 by walking the West Highland Way.
The money went to a careers association and to the British Lung Foundation.
