Gary Numan added to line-up for next summer’s Playground Festival at Rouken Glen Park
Electronic music star Gary Numan is among the latest acts to be added to the line-up for next summer’s Playground Festival in Rouken Glen Park.
Numan – who had solo hits with ‘Are Friends Electric?’ and ‘Cars’ after rising to prominence as the frontman of new wave band Tubeway Army – is one of a number of acts added to by the festival organisers for three days of musical magic.
The event originally had to be postponed due to Covid-19, and is now scheduled to go ahead on July 30 to August 1, 2021, with a line-up of international music icons.
Gary Numan said: “I’m excited to be headed to Glasgow for Playground 21 in a beautiful park with a bunch of global music legends including Kraftwerk... see you there.”
Also added to the line-up is fiery singer Stephanie Cheape, who was a big hit with the crowds at festivals last year including TRNSMT, Belladrum and Party at the Palace.
Stephanie said: “This line-up is incredible – I’m buzzing to be playing on the same bill as some of the real innovators of electronic music.
“Gary Numan and Kraftwerk are both properly iconic so for an artist like me making modern electronic pop they are the origins really – this is a really special event and will mean so much to us all after the year the world stopped. “Music didn’t die though... it will be back – see you down the front!”
Also added to the line-up is Johnny Lynch, aka Pictish Trail, who said: “I’m very much looking forward to returning to Playground Festival in 2021, and beyond excited to be sharing a stage with Kraftwerk, who are true icons of electronic music.
“Their music has always carried a hopeful vision of the future which has always been a big inspiration to me, and I can’t think of a better headliner after the year we’ve just had.
“With so much other great stuff on the line-up, Playground is easily the best festival in Scotland right now. See you there!”
Horse Meat Disco are also playing the festival, and say they can’t wait to be back in Glasgow alongside so many friends and family, adding that the line-up is “amazing”.
Organiser Ashleigh Elliott, of Playground Festival, said: “We’re delighted to announce wave two of our line-up and we are sure fans will agree it’s pretty much insane.
“There is much more to announce including a major special guest which we are really excited about.
“At Playground HQ we have been blown away by the amazing response to last week’s headliner reveal of Underworld, Kraftwerk 3-D, Nile Rodgers and CHIC.
“Thank you to all the Playground Family for retaining your tickets. The response to our free upgrades for sticking with us has been simply beautiful and we are on course to make this the most exciting festival of 2021.
