IT WAS a good weekend for southside hockey, writes Mike Stanger, with both men’s and women’s teams enjoying success.
The shock result was in Dundee in the women’s league title battle between the unbeaten top-of-the-table reigning champions Grove Menzieshill and third-placed Milne Craig Clydesdale Western.
The Glasgow side went ahead when skipper Catriona Ralph converted a penalty.
Cram then scored when she found herself unmarked early in the second half.
The Taysiders pulled one back from a penalty corner in the closing minute.
Western stay third, however, because of a 5-1 win for second-placed Giffnock.
In the men’s first division, Greaves Clydesdale moved into sixth place, displacing Edinburgh university with an absorbing 4-3 victory over the students at Titwood.
The university took a 2-1 lead at half-time, Johnny Roy scoring for the home side. But the second half was a different game altogether.
Raymond Wrightson levelled the scores, and two goals from Ciaran Crawford gave Clydesdale a 4-2 cushion, although they conceded an overtime penalty corner which left the final score at 4-3.
