GOLFERS of the future are making the grade in Newton Mearns.

A total of 16 of the brightest local talents have been inducted into the newly formed Junior Coaching Academy, which offers free memberships and tuition at the course.

Manager Russell Gray told ExtraSport: “At Mearns Castle Golf Academy we have the ambition to introduce as many young players as possible to the fun and friendship that many find in the game of golf.

“It is hoped these kids will now acquire handicaps over the next few months to prepare them to start playing medals and club competitions.

“The next Tiger Woods might just be around the corner.”

The academy still has spaces on its Easter and summer coaching camps, as well as actively looking for more junior members to join the golf club.

The coaching team consists of four expert PGA qualified professionals, Iain Kennedy, Mark Loftus, David Orr and George Boswell.
