Saturday’s cricket may have been a washout, but Sunday brought a derby clash between neighbours NVT Poloc and PSL team Sports Clydesdale in the second round of the new CSL40 Sunday Cup at Shawholm.
In bright sunshine, the home side batted first and made an impressive 233 for six wickets in their allocated 40 overs.
A sprightly opening partnership off 55 between veteran Anjum Aslam and Abid Shuja was emphasised by a second-wicket follow-up of 158 between Aslam (97) and pro Carl Huyser (53) to set up a match-winning scenario.
Poloc’s total was certainly a challenge for the Clydesdale team under the captaincy of Zulfiqar Shahid.
Scotland internationalist Sufyan Sharif, who is still making his way back from injury, fell short of his half-century by a single run.
Although they failed to take Clydesdale’s final wicket, Poloc’s young skipper Craig Young will have been well satisfied with the 35-run victory and a full three points, the first of their CSL Cup campaign.
