Next month Kenny Gilkison who practices his Martial Art in Parklands Newton Mearns on a Sunday morning, will represent the United Kingdom in Athens as a member of the British Iaido Team for the European Championships.

Kenny is currently the UK National Champion for Shodan.

Kenny Gilkison from Paisley, a 1st dan Shodan (black belt) in Iaido, has trained with Donnie Gordon, Yushinkan dojo leader for the past two years.

Following the competition, which takes place on November 1-3, Kenny will grade for 2nd Dan and all members of the Yushinkan dojo will be cheering him on.

Kenny said: “I am deeply honoured to have been selected to represent the United Kingdom and will do my best to uphold the true spirt of Iaido.”

Kenny practices Muso Shinden Ryu Iaido, a Japanese sword martial art that has been in existence for hundreds of years.

Students gain fitness, focus and friends.

Donnie (4th dan) added: “Kenny has worked hard to achieve his place in the team and I am delighted that his efforts have been recognised. Kenny’s achievement is of particular importance to us, as our club has only been going for two years”.

The club is always looking for new members, female, male and juniors.
