Newton Mearns British Iaido club member selected to represent UK at European Championships in Athens

Next month Kenny Gilkison who practices his Martial Art in Parklands Newton Mearns on a Sunday morning, will represent the United Kingdom in Athens as a member of the British Iaido Team for the European Championships.

Kenny is currently the UK National Champion for Shodan.

Kenny Gilkison from Paisley, a 1st dan Shodan (black belt) in Iaido, has trained with Donnie Gordon, Yushinkan dojo leader for the past two years.

Following the competition, which takes place on November 1-3, Kenny will grade for 2nd Dan and all members of the Yushinkan dojo will be cheering him on.

Kenny said: “I am deeply honoured to have been selected to represent the United Kingdom and will do my best to uphold the true spirt of Iaido.”

Kenny practices Muso Shinden Ryu Iaido, a Japanese sword martial art that has been in existence for hundreds of years.

Students gain fitness, focus and friends.

Donnie (4th dan) added: “Kenny has worked hard to achieve his place in the team and I am delighted that his efforts have been recognised. Kenny’s achievement is of particular importance to us, as our club has only been going for two years”.
