They will be bidding to win the title of Scotland’s Strongest Man and earn a place at the UK’s Strongest Man Finals, which will be televised on Channel 5 later this year.

Paul ‘Bad Boy’ Benton, from Laurencekirk, is odds on favourite to win the title, and is the most experienced athlete in the field.

But he faces some stiff competition, including from Scott who put in a strong performance at last year’s UK’s Strongest Man and is one of Scotland’s rising strongman stars.

Promoter Glenn Ross, a five-time UK’s Strongest Man, said: Scotland is a real hot-bed for strongman right now, and this is the first time we have promoted here.

“We’ve had such a great response, we’re now looking to bringing more great strongman events to Scotland.”

Over the day the strongmen will lift over 2500 kilogrammes of weight over five gruelling contests, with the top three athletes all qualifying for UK’s Strongest Man in St Albans, Hertfordshire in July.

The schedule is - Event 1, The 400Kg Super Yoke; Event 2, Deadlift for Max – Opening Weight 280kg; Event 3, 320Kg Farmers Walk; Event 4, The Log Lift 130 Kg; Events 5, The Atlas Stones 115,130, 145, 160kg.

The field comprises Paul Benton (Laurencekirk), Scott Milne (Cumbernauld), Ronald Young (Fraserburgh), Louis Jack (Aberdeen), Ryan Reid (Bonnyrigg), Charlie Little (Wooler), Jason Hastie (Kelso) and Bren Powers.
