Nearly 200 runners lined up for the Bellahouston road runners 5K race last weekend.
With only Stuart Gibson of Ronhill Cambuslang for company, three Shettleston Harriers athletes stole a march on the field, and the battle for the top places was between the club members.
It did not take Tewolde Mengisteab long to take the lead, which he stretched all the way to the end in a record time of 14 minutes 41 seconds, showing why he is one of the best distance runners in Scotland.
Allan Adams and Paul Sorrie, also of Shettleston finished second and third, with Gibson in fourth.
In the ladies’ race, the top three athletes were well clear of the rest of the field, with the eventual winner Julia Henderson of Helensburgh AAC clocking 18.05.
Kirsty Husband of Garscube Harriers finished second and Jenny Bannerman, all the way from Inverness Harriers, was third.
The ladies’ team prize was claimed by the host club, Bellahouston Road Runners.
The club are organising a hill race at Ben venue in Trossachs National Park on Sunday October 1.
The second annual Jimmy Irvine achilles heel Bella 10k will take place on Saturday 12th November at 11.00am.
