FORMER GHA winger Rory Hughes was in Scotland sevens action in Russia this weekend.
The youngster from Hillpark was part of a team which had mixed success in the tournament.
On day one, Scotland defeated Italy (31-7) and Portugal (20-5), but lost to Germany (19-24, although Rory found himself on the scoresheet and Spain (21-24).
Head coach Graham Shield said: “It was hugely disappointing and frustrating at the start of the day but the players have taken away a lot from the challenge.
“The win against Portugal was important for the squad. This showed we were able to compete with a very strong team and sevens nation”.
The second day was even more disappointing, with losses to France (7-12), Ukraine (14-19) and Wales (21-35).
The defeats sees the squad drop from sixth to eighth in the European rankings.
This weekend, the squad travel toOdense in Denmark.
Meanwhile, GHA have announced their pre-season schedule for this season.
The first XV will take on Biggar on August 4, Hillhead Jordanhill on August 11 and Howe of Fife on August 18.
