Glasgow City forward Jane Ross has been selected as a stand by player for the GB Women’s Olympic Football Team.
In a side, which has been controversially dominated by English based players, Glasgow City are thrilled that Jane has been selected for what will be a “once in a lifetime experience”.
Miss Ross will join the squad on July 9 and could be on Olympic duty untill the final, which takes place on August 9.
Jane’s first involvement with the team will be for the official kit out in Team GB adidas apparel, then off to the base of the Olympic village for preparation and training camps.
Next, it’s the squad’s first practice match, which will be a friendly against Sweden at Middlesbrough’s Riverside Stadium on the 20th July.
The team’s first official Olympic match will be against New Zealand on July 25.
They will then face Cameroon on the July 28, before the glamour game against Brazil on July 31.
Dependant on the team’s results, the team could then progress to the quarter finals which start on the August 3.
Jane told The Extra: “I am very pleased to be included as one of the four reserve players for the Team GB Olympics squad.
“To be involved in the Olympic Games in London this year is the opportunity of a lifetime and it is an experience that I am greatly looking forward to.”
After Jane’s Olympic involvement she will jet back to join the Glasgow City team as they prepare to head off to Finland for the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
