THEY were dancing in the streets of Pollokshields this week as Craigholme are national champions.
At the national hockey centre, where the Commonwealth games hockey will be played, the school’s S3 hockey team defeated all comers on Thursday.
Going into finals day last week, the team were undefeated in the tournament and the run of form would continue.
In the first game, Gordonstoun were lambs to the slaughter, falling 5-1 to the sensational southsiders.
Next up were Strathallan, who provided stiffer competition, but a late Molly Hart goal secured the 1-0 win.
A rampant performance in their penultimate fixture saw Craigholme easy victors in a 4-0 victory against St Columba’s.
George Watson’s college from Edinburgh provided the ultimate test in the final.
In a tense game, a series of fine saves by Craigholme goalie Fiona Bell kept her side in it. With the score still 0-0 into the dying minutes, Rebecca Conroy scored to save the day and claim victory over the Edinburgh side.
A school spokesman said: “The girls won through with a fantastic team performance across the day — every member of the team and the coaching staff contributed to the success.
“Coaches, Mrs Robertson and Mrs Justice are to be congratulated on their efforts.”
