Vale stayed top of the Central First Division after last week’s second half rally earned a draw with closest rivals Benburb.

Boss Gordon Moffate said: “You don’t go to Greenock and get an easy time so we need more our second half performance than our first one.

“We have had a lot of home games scheduled and there’s been a couple that we got switched because it wasn’t going to be on.

“We’ve ended up with a run of home games and given ourselves a wee platform, but we’ve now got to go to away grounds, to some really tough venues, and try and get some points.”

Moffat admitted he had mixed emotions over the Benburb match - relief at salvaging late point tinged with disappointment at his side’s first half performance.

He said: “In the first half we weren’t great.

“I didn’t think we were poor and we had some decent patterns of passing but we didn’t really hurt them.

“We were a wee bit safe with our passing and didn’t really take any chances. I thought Benburb were on top to be fair and they probably felt they should have been further in front.

“They probably had another three chances on top of their goal so we rode our luck a wee bit and they were just a wee bit hungrier.

“In the second half we were a lot better. I think the wind played a part, but I think we upped it a wee bit.

“We had three or four right good chances but never hit the target and then wee Liam McGonigle scored the free-kick at the end which got us a point.

“When you lose a goal in the last minute like Benburb did you always feel a bit hard done by but I thought we had done enough in the second half to deserve a point.”
