Rangers ‘value’ former Man Utd player at £5m amid reported transfer interest

Rangers have slapped a hefty price tag of £5 million on star shot-stopper Jack Butland as interest in the former Manchester United goalkeeper begins to emerge, according to a recent report from Football Insider.

Butland is enjoying something of a career renaissance at the Ibrox Stadium. So far this season, he has the highest save percentage in the division at 77.3% and has kept more clean sheets than any other ‘keeper (6) [via FBref].

His good form for Rangers comes after a long spell of bad form for teams such as Stoke City and Crystal Palace - making the jump to the Gers has given him an excellent opportunity to get his career back on track. In return, Rangers have shown faith in him - anyone who wishes to wrestle him from them will have to part ways with a large fee.

Who is interested in a move for Jack Butland?

Football Insider reports that Birmingham City, the club that Butland made his debut for back in 2010, are interested in the possibility of a return for the 30-year-old.

As things stand, the Blues have yet to officially submit a bid for the player. Rangers are very keen to keep him at the club - back on Friday, Football Insider reported that they would not entertain any offers for Butland.

Can Butland get back into the England setup?

Sadly, despite Butland’s excellent form for Rangers, competition for England’s number one spot is fierce. If he wants to break back into the team, he will need to fend off the likes of Jordan Pickford, Aaron Ramsdale, Sam Johnstone, Nick Pope and Dean Henderson - amongst others.

His good form will put him back on the radar of Gareth Southgate after five years outside of the England national setup - but it will take more than just good form to break back into the team.
