The striker once commanded a £240,000 fee taking him from the Bairns to Bradford City in 2011 after he top scored for Steven Pressley’s side in season 2010-11.

Stewart later went on to have spells at Dundee, Kilmarnock, Hamilton, Stranraer, Dumbarton and a particularly goal-laden time at Raith Rovers.

He is the latest big name to make the move to the new pyramid league set up in the West, which also includes Darvel FC who have signed ex-Bairns Conor Greene and Ian McShane as well as ex-St Mirren and Forfar winger Jordan Kirkpatrick. Darian McKinnon has also joined Drumchapel United in the west conferences.

St Cadoc’s, based in Newton Mearns, are one of three new inductees to the new west league who do not have a background in junior football.

But the club has already lured former Beith boss Johnny Millar and ex-Hamilton coach Mark McLaughlin to coach the team alongside former Clyde midfielder Stevie Convery, and former Dumbarton goalkeeper Stephen Grindlay ahead of its debut season.

St Cadoc’s also runs an extensive youth football programme, and will include an under-20s team next term.
