QUEEN’S Park’s SFL division two campaign begins on Saturday, when the Spiders take on East Stirlingshire at Hampden Park.

Optimism of a new season crashed down with a thud on Saturday when the Hampden side fell to a 6-0 league cup defeat.

At Stark’s Park, Raith Rovers made light work of the young side, which may cause boss Gardener Speirs to take a long, hard look at his squad.

QP were reduced to ten men at the start of the second half when Capuano was booked twice just minutes apart.

Gardener Speirs said: “Our squad is coming along nicely. I know we would like to add three or four players; maybe a couple of defenders, another striker and we obviously need another goalkeeper.

“We will hopefully do that in the near future as opposed to further down the line, but we keep looking.

“We have one or two things bubbling under the surface so fingers crossed.”

Meanwhile, Pollok face rivals Arthurlie in the Southside derby on Saturday (2pm) at Newlandsfield Park in the third game of the sectional league cup group stage.

The first league game of the season is away to Clydebank on August 17.

Lok won their first competitive match of the season away at McKenna Park against St Anthonys in the same competition.”
