GLASGOW road club’s Paul McSkimming came out on top in VC Glasgow South’s annual road race.
Now in its fourth year, the local cycling club — which is now sponsored by Adrenaline bikes of Newton Mearns — has been praised for the excellent organisation of its open road-race.
Held over three laps of a testing 18-mile circuit which takes in Stewarton Road and the A77, the finish is at the top of Eaglesham Moor Road.
The best placed local rider of the 56-mile course was Giffnock’s Ronnie Burns, in ninth place.
Experienced motorcycle marshal Paul Mullen, from the National Escort Group, said:
“Congratulations to VCGS on a cracking event.
“I know it’s not always easy for clubs to find volunteers but the guys excelled in difficult conditions”.
Club president, John Davies, of Newton Mearns, said: “I was so proud to be part of it.
“I heard so many riders and external officials praising the event I couldn’t believe it.
“Then I realised this was a VCGS race and this is what we do as a club — we do the best we can and then add a bit!”
