All change as Gus leads youngsters into the lion’s den

Clyde 2 Queen’s Park 0

There was no place in the XI for regular starters like Shaun Rooney, Gavin Mitchell, Tony Quinn, Bryan Wharton et al against old rivals Clyde, with bigger fish to fry in the play-offs.

And, while it was nice to see youngsters like Billy Mortimer and James Marr get a start, with other youth academy prospects taking a seat on the bench, there was a worry that QP might see the wrong end of an embarrassing scoreline.

But, despite going down to a 2-0 defeat, the boys performed reasonably well, with a line-up of Willie Muir in goal, a back four of Marr, David McGregor, Scott Gibson and Sean Burns, a midfield of Conor McVey, Pat Slattery and Shaun Fraser, with Mortimer, Ryan Hynes and Ciaran McElroy providing the attacking threat.

With so many changes, it was no surprise that Queen’s struggled to settle in.

It was an unremarkable effort on Queen’s side but the 2-0 defeat wasn’t an easy steal for Clyde.
