The best new TV on Amazon Prime in June

A darker spin on The Devil Wears Prada concept, Amazon's very own Marvel comic book show, and some returning fan favourites - June on Amazon Prime UK brings with it some interesting small screen offerings.

Here are the most striking of next month's new and returning TV shows, along with a round-up of everything else coming to the service.

Dietland

Dietland aims to be a searing drama with a satirical edge (Photo: Amazon Prime)

What is it? Co-starring The Good Wife's Julianna Margulies, and based on Sarai Walker's 2015 novel of the same name, this darkly comic drama follows Plum Kettle - a ghost-writer for the editor of one of New York's biggest fashion magazines. Expect a scathing, contemporary slant on the whole Devil Wears Prada equation; with themes revolving around misogyny, self-image, and the superficial media world.

Cloak and Dagger

When two teenagers develop super-powers, there are bound to be serious shenanigans (Photo: Amazon Prime)

What is it? Netflix has had Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and more. Now Amazon gets its very own Marvel series, revolving around two super-powered teenagers: Tandy and Tyrone. From very different backgrounds, but with a shared emotional past, they team-up in a story that looks to have all the obligatory danger and detective elements.

What is it? Billy Bob Thornton returns for a second outing of the acclaimed, murky legal drama series. This time, Thornton's jaded protagonist and his team get drawn into a conspiracy when they start looking deeper into what appeared to be an open-and-shut murder investigation. Expect fresh corruption, twists and turns.

Preacher (Season 3)

Fire and brimstone. And action and weirdness. Dominic Cooper's Preacher is back (Photo: Amazon Prime)

What is it? Entertaining, bizarro-fantasy drama about a grizzled, superpowered preacher taking on the forces of darkness with his wild girlfriend and vampire pal. Following on from season two's chaotic New Orleans jaunt, Dominic Cooper's anti-hero gets fresh intrigue in the shape of that old chestnut: "a mysterious figure from his past". Hellish fun awaits.
