A CATHCART youth drop-in centre is now officially open for business after a warm welcome from neighbours.
The Point, featured in last week’s Extra, was unveiled by Newlands/Auldburn councillor Stephen Curran – also Glasgow city council’s executive member for education – at an opening ceremony on Saturday (June 16).
The project, run by Cathcart Youth Ministry Project – a collaboration between Cathcart Trinity church of Scotland, Cathcart Baptist church and the United Free church – is based at The Gateway on Merrylee Road, and offers after-school activities for school pupils S1-6.
The hall was recently renovated thanks to a £9,500 grant from the Newlands and Auldburn area committee, and provides youngsters with internet access, video games and more.
Cara Wightman, senior development worker, told The Extra that it was “a great morning full of positive feedback” attended by 85 people.
