NOWADAYS, young people can be found — even at priary school age — texting on their smartphones between classes (but not during class, okay?)
They’ll be wearing casual clothes and trainers.
But back around 1915, when this picture was taken, children had to dress so differently — much more formal than today. And for children of primary school age, don’t you think they look rather grim?
The only child with a smile is the boy on the front row, right, who must have misheard the photographer’s direction.Perhaps the sternest look is reserved for the headmaster. If The Extra had been around, this would have been part of our schools’ pull-out.
