HERE’S a Victorian era photograph of Alexander’s Mill in Waterfoot. This picture was taken pre 1897. Now it’s called Dripps Mill.
William Alexander took the inset pic. He said: “I have attached a photo I took in March 2007. You will find that much remains unaltered. The out buildings in the house ceased to be white washed in my grandfather’s time. The authorities forced my father to fence in the mill lade for safety. The hay shed is unaltered but the mill building is substantially larger now. It is this fact that leads me to date the photo as pre-1987. You may notice, that one of the trees behind the mill still stands over a century later, recognisable by its distinctive branch pattern.”
