SEVERAL groups in East Renfrewshire have benefited from a windfall – literally.
Whitelee wind farm has given out awards totalling £140,000 to organisations throughout the area.
They include £12,500 to Greenbank parish church for window replacements, £18,900 to Eastwood Nursery Allotments Association to rebuild a wall and £16,190 for Eaglesham and Waterfoot Community Development Trust to replace village a heritage point with stone cairns.
The fund is available to all eligible projects within East Renfrewshire, although preference is given to those within 5km of Whitelee.
Stephen Naysmith, chair of Eastwood Nursery Allotment Association (ENAA), told The Extra: “We are delighted to have won this funding. It was a significant setback when we learned that the wall at the top of the site was unsafe, and it has held back developments on the site.
“Thanks to this very generous support from the Whitelee Wind Farm Fund, we will be able to replace the wall.
“This will enable us to do a lot more work to enhance the facilities at the site and build on the great progress made by individual plot-holders already.”
