Southsider Raza Sadiq is a sports hero — and that’s official.
The founding member of Active Life Club — a project encouraging youngsters into sport — and lifelong community activist appeared in The Extra last month after being shortlisted an an unsung hero in the British Ethnic Diversity Sports Awards.
Raza (53) took the prize a ceremony in London last weekend, rubbing shoulders with sports superstars from across the country.
He said: “I am delighted and humbled to have won such a prestigious award, and touched by the support from young people and partner organisations.
“There was a buzz in Glasgow for this selection and I was inundated with messages of support.”
Arun Kang, founder of the awards, added: “Raza truly deserves to be recognised for his decades of volunteer work helping BME communities in Glasgow.
“The Active Life Club is testament to his belief that sport can change people’s lives and provide life skills for young people that will stand the test of time.”
