PERHAPS the most famous mum in sports visited Barrhead, this week.
Judy Murray, mum of Andy, dropped in on Cowan Park tennis courts on Sunday to see the new, £82,000 courts participate in the first-ever Great British Tennis Weekend.
The venue was one of around 40 across the UK joining in the Lawn Tennis Association’s event.
The mother of the Wimbledon champion was joined by more than 200 people who enjoyed free tennis sessions over the course of the day.
She also delivered coaching sessions to a variety of groups and heard from many about how Andy had inspired them to pick up a racquet.
Convener for community services and community safety, councillor Mary Montague, said: “It was wonderful to welcome Judy Murray to East Renfrewshire and to see so many people enjoying the tennis courts.
“We were all inspired by Andy Murray’s Wimbledon triumph and his win has really helped spark interest in tennis.
“Thank you to Judy for making the time to come here as part of the Great British Tennis Weekend.”
