Uplawmoor threatened by flight path changes

Paul Masterton MP has raised his concerns about potential changes to Glasgow Airport's departure and approach flight paths which could see planes flying low over Uplawmoor in East Renfrewshire.

Mr Masterton is concerned that the fundamental village and semi rural aspect of Uplawmoor could be eroded by an increase in air and noise pollution.

In writing to all residents in Uplawmoor, Mr Masterton has also sought to draw their attention to these proposed changes ahead of the consultation deadline.

Glasgow Airport is currently consulting on changes to flight paths following a move to satellite based navigational systems which will see the current ground based navigational systems decommissioned in 2019.

The consultations on Airspace Change and the Noise Action Plan both close on April 13.

Commenting East Renfrewshire MP, Paul Masterton said: “If implemented without change then Uplawmoor would likely face an increase in air and noise pollution far removed from its current rural character.

“This is not to oppose the air change plan itself, which I recognise is required, but the needs and sensitives of rural communities cannot be cast aside for the sake of convenience.

“I have now written to all residents in Uplawmoor to alert them to these proposed changes and would suggest that anyone concerned should respond to Glasgow Airport before 13th April.”
