The young boy who died after being struck by a van in the East End of Glasgow yesterday, (Monday, September 12) has been named by police as Lennon Toland (5), of Easterhill Place, Tollcross, Glasgow.
Around 3.15pm, the youngster was seriously injured after he was struck by a white Ford Transit van on Dalness St, Shettleston. He was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he died a short time later.
The 62-year-old driver of the van was not injured.
Sergeant Jackie Dunbar, Greater Glasgow Road Policing Unit, Govan, said: “From our enquiries so far, it would appear that the boy, a pupil at St Paul’s (Shettleston) Primary School on Anwoth St, Glasgow, was struck by the van, which had come in to Dalness St from Tollcross Road, as it turned into a car park on Dalness St.
“It was picking up time at the school and there were a number of people in the area at the time of the incident.
“I would ask that anyone who saw what happened, and who has not already been spoken to by police, contact officers at the Road Policing Complex via 101.”
Dalness Street at Dalness Close is closed to allow officers to carry out their investigations. Local diversions are in place.
A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
