The Extra recently reported on The Royal Bank of Scotland’s decision to close two southside branches.
And now it’s the turn of the TSB, who announced yesterday (June 9), that it is to close the doors on its Newton Mearns branch in November this year.
The branch on Ayr Road is said by the company to be part of their ongoing strategy to have the right branches in the right places.
The TSB told The Extra that all staff will be transferred to the nearest branch in Clarkston which is to be refurbished, and that there will be no redundancies.
Local MP, Kirsten Oswald, said: “I am very disappointed to hear of TSB’s plans to close their branch in Newton Mearns. I will be writing to the bank urging them to think again.
“This is particularly concerning, because it comes on the back of the decision by RBS to close their Netherlee and Barrhead branches.
“I question the priorities of our banks, who seem happy to focus on big business, and big bonuses, but pay scant attention to the needs of local communities”.
