The spirit of Christmas is being brought to life with an online Advent calendar featuring 25 specially created videos made by Church of Scotland ministers.
A new film is being released each day reflecting on a word relating to a different aspect of the season.
The tone ranges from joyful to spiritual and some tackle difficult topics such as domestic violence and loneliness. They are aimed at anyone seeking the true festive spirit amid the “rampant commercialism” which now dominates the weeks of Advent.
Giffnock South Minister Catherine Beattie was delighted to be asked to take part in the video.
She said: “We were very pleased to be asked this year to be part of the Church of Scotland’s online Advent Calendar.
“We were given a word to reflect on, and we have made a short film with a variety of different members of our congregation.
“In the film, each person reflects on his or her interpretation or understanding of the word ‘peace’.
“Each day the Church of Scotland will post a video on a different word – we don’t know which day our film will appear”
The Right Rev Dr Russell Barr, who features in the calendar, said: “The Advent season is when the church picks up the Christmas story. You will learn so much more about the deep meaning of Christmas and so much more about yourself.”
