THE overwhelming majority of people think East Renfrewsyhire is a great place to live, according to a recent survey.

The Citizens’ Panel looked at the area’s reputation, schools safe and clean environment as the reasons for its ratings.

The result showed that 95% thought life in the area was either very satisfactory or satisfactory.

The issues at the top of most people’s agenda were education, crime, a clean environment, healthcare, parks and outdoor spaces, household income, public transport and leisure opportunities.

People’s rating of their personal quality of life in East Renfrewshire came out very positively with most taking part giving the area at least eight out of 10.

And the council came out in a good light with services provided by the authority reaching 76% level of satisfaction: up 2% on the previous two Citizens’ Panel surveys.

Most also indicated they were satisfied with the council’s work in tackling community safety issues, but thought greater enforcement over littering was the main suggestion for improvement.

Councillor Ian McAlpine, convener for corporate services, was very happy with the results. He said: “It’s fantastic to see that so many local residents rate East Renfrewshire as a great place to live.

“We are committed to ensuring the area provides the very best services for our citizens, and it’a heartening that this is recognised by such a high proportion of people.

“But we won’t rest on our laurels — as a council we will continue to strive to build on those results, and to make sure East Renfrewshire continues to be one of the best places to live in Scotland.”

The panel is made up of 1,200 East Renfrewshire residents from across the area. In total, 63% responded to the survey, up from last year’s results.
