The Gym Glasgow South is giving aspiring athletes the opportunity to realise their ambitions by launching its Place on the Podium Awards.
The award-winning company is supporting talented athletes in Glasgow to identify the next Olympic and Paralympic hopefuls by providing free annual membership to seven deserving winners.
Whatever their sport, The Gym Glasgow South can provide the foundation of a successful training programme.
The vision of The Gym Glasgow South is to provide affordable access to exercise facilities to every person who wants to improve their wellbeing, whatever their starting point.
Jim Graham, The Gym Group’s Chief Operating Officer, explains: “The Gym wants to celebrate the fact that we have so many aspiring athletes using our facilities.
“We can offer support to members who are following their sporting dream. The Place on the Podium Awards seek to identify worthy athletes and provide free annual membership to support them in achieving their sporting ambitions.”
Allyn Condon, General Manager at The Gym Group and former double Olympian adds: “After the record-breaking medal haul at the historic Rio 2016 Games this summer, the stories behind the podium success have no doubt helped to inspire the next generation of athletes. From personal experience, it’s undoubtedly no easy feat and it is often not done alone with most athletes citing an endless list of people who have helped them along the way.
“I started athletics straight after watching the Los Angeles Olympics as young boy. My biggest inspiration was my father who became my coach and eventually coached me to two Olympic Games, one summer as a sprinter and one winter as a Bobsledder. Not all aspiring and talented athletes get the opportunities in life and by holding the Place on the Podium Awards, we can support the next generation in achieving sporting success.”
