Summer roadworks start at Clyde Tunnel

COMMUTERS regularly using the Clyde Tunnel are asked to take note of ongoing roadworks in place until mid August.

Repairs are needed at the north and south approaches to the tunnel, as well as resurfacing on the expressway carriageway.

Glasgow city council will also be renewing road markings, cleaning drainage systems, repairing safety barriers and walls and refurbishing lighting – ongoing from this week until August 14.

As a result, various lane, carriageway and slip road closures will be in place throughout.

The Clyde Tunnel will remain open during roadworks, but at times a contraflow system – reducing traffic down to one lane – will be put in place.

GCC has stated that the work has been planned for low traffic periods to minimise disruption, with the first phase taking place during the spring school holidays, the second prior to the summer holiday and the third during the summer school break.

However, the route will face heavy traffic during these periods, and the work is likely to cause delays.

Motorists are advised to take alternative routes where possible, allow extra time for journeys or make use of public transport.
