A community arts event in Glasgow’s vibrant Southside will once again transform the dark winter streets of the local community into a glittering outdoor gallery for all to enjoy.
The past two years have established Strathbungo Window Wanderland as an event in the Glasgow calendar not to be missed, as Strathbungo residents created incredible displays in their front windows, forming a beautiful walking trail through the neighbourhood.
There have been performances in front rooms, amazing projections onto buildings, mischievous monkeys, polka dot parties, disco balls, political pronouncements, mythical creatures, intricate installations, pop up bingo halls, hair salons and tattoo parlours, fantastical faraway lands and music filling the streets….
Guaranteed to brighten up even the darkest of Glasgow February nights, Strathbungo Window Wanderland 2019 promises to be just as incredible this year, with a few extra flourishes to add further magic and sparkle to this incredible community street festival, including a hidden garden cinema and a processing brass band.
There are rumours of a house-sized human jukebox and Bungo Brexit banter but the magic of the event is that little will be revealed until the night itself.
All are invited to come and wander around Strathbungo on February 23... the event is free and unticketed.
Event organiser and local resident, Sarah Reid explains: “All we ask is that residents create some kind of display in their front windows.
“It’s such a simple idea but I love the way that it shows so powerfully what we can achieve when we a community works towards something together. Strathbungo becomes a playground for everyone for the night and, in a really fun way, important things happen: neighbours meet, hopes and concerns are shared, connections are made.
“I think it’s really special that, through events like this, we create little moments of magic and surprise that transport us from our day-to-day lives for a while; we’re reminded that we’re part of something bigger and hopefully feel more connected to our community and those around us.’
Window Wanderland started in Bristol in 2015 and since then, there have been many more events across the country.
Now in its third year, Strathbungo Window Wanderland was the first in Scotland.
Strathbungo Window Wonderland takes place on Saturday, February 23 from 6-9pm.
