WRITER and journalist Kirsty Logan has won the Scott Prize for her debut short story collection.

Stories from the southsider’s first book, The Rental Heart & Other Fairytales, had already been broadcast on BBC Radio 4.

Now, thanks to a win in the international competition, the adult fairtale collection will be on shelves in January 2014 — and Kirsty is delighted to have represented Scotland in the contest.

The Battlefield resident told The Extra: “I’m thrilled to have won.

“The shortlisted writers are a mix of American and British, and I’m proud that of all the nationalities that could have won, Scotland got it.

“I’m very inspired by Scotland - some of the stories are set in Glasgow, with others in Skye and Culzean beach. It’s great that these locations will come alive in readers’ imaginations all over the world.”
