Commuters were caught up in a blaze this morning on the southside which saw tenants of a tenement building evacuated.
Roads around the scene were closed as emergency services battled the fire causing chaos during the morning rush hour commute to work.
The families were evacuated after the fire was discovered around 6.25am.
A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service told The Extra: “Upon receiving the emergency call this morning we sent three pump tenders and an aerial appliance to the scene.
“Officers found that a weel developed fire was located in the basement and ground floor of the building which was fought with two main water jets and three hose reels.
“No residents in the property were injured as Scottish Fire and Rescue teams led everyone to safety.
“Crews remain at the scene checking for hotspots and for damping down, but hope to be clear of the incident by 11am this morning.
One resident said: “We’ve been told everyone is accounted for and safe.
“The fire is meant to have started on the lower level and it’s mainly smoke damage.
“We are meant to be getting back into our flats this morning.
“I’m just glad everyone is ok.”
