MPs for a Deal’ is a group comprised of Members of Parliament from across the political divide with Conservative, Labour and Independent MPs coming together to support a deal that will allow the UK to leave the European Union after the European Council Summit in October.

MPs have signed up to support the following statement: “We, the undersigned will vote for a deal that protects the jobs and livelihoods of our constituents and enables the UK to leave the EU on 31 October 2019.”

Paul, together with other cross-party MPs, was in the lobby to support the Kinnock amendment to the EU (Withdrawal) (No. 6) Bill which passed through the House last week. The Amendment ensures that any delay to the UK’s departure – if a delay is needed at all – is conditional upon an effort to debate and pass a deal based on the outcome of inter-party talks held earlier this year.

Earlier this year, Mr Masterton resigned from his Government role to vote against leaving the EU without a deal in all circumstances, and has made it clear he believes the best way to deliver the 2016 referendum result is to leave with a deal.

Announcing his support for the new group, Paul said: “I am very pleased to be able to come together with colleagues from across the political divide in order to help find a sensible deal that works for everyone.

“Throughout this process I have argued for compromise and voted consistently for a sensible, negotiated exit. To many MPs on both sides of the Brexit argument have failed to do, resulting in continued uncertainty and delay.

It’s very disappointing that SNP MPs continue to claim to want to avoid a No Deal Brexit yet say they will vote against any deal brought to Parliament. It is nearly 3 years since MPs voted to trigger article 50 to leave the EU but each time a deadline comes it passes with little being achieved to progress our departure. This time has to be different and it has to bring the country together. MPs from all Parties need to back a deal and let the country move on.”
