East Renfrewshire’s MP has congratulated new Prime Minister Boris Johnson – and is now looking for him to deliver on his commitments.

Paul Masterton had backed Johnson’s rival Jeremy Hunt, but following the result of the Tories’ election, he said: “I congratulate Boris Johnson on becoming the new leader of the Conservative and Unionist Party and the new Prime Minister.”

Mr Masterton added: “My priority will be ensuring he delivers on his commitment to strengthening Scotland within the Union, standing firm against Nicola Sturgeon’s continued attempts to tear our country apart, and keeping Jeremy Corbyn out of Downing Street.”

Boris Johnson won the race to become the Conservative leader – and the Prime Minister – defeating rival candidate Jeremy Hunt by 45,497 votes.
