Council chiefs are being asked to give the green light to a programme of work for 2020/21 when they meet next Thursday.

It follows an additional £15m investment in roads infrastructure over five years, which was agreed in February 2019.

Most of this year’s £3m allocation has been directed towards unclassified roads which “require significant works”.

There has been a delay in the delivery of the programme due to restrictions on the construction industry as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. Any slippage will be carried forward to 2021/22.

East Renfrewshire Council is ranked in first place for the condition of A class roads but data for unclassified roads, around 80 per cent of the area’s network, shows almost 40 per cent should be considered for maintenance.

“It is clear that the considerable achievements on the classified network are being overshadowed by the figures for the unclassified network,” a council report states.
