Changes made to brown bin collections in East Renfrewshire

East Renfrewshire Council is changing the cycle for brown bin collections from this Monday, July 6.

Collections of brown bins are changing in East Renfrewshire.

Here’s how it will work:

• Residents who have their bins collected on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, will have their brown bin collected with their green bin.

• Residents who have their bins collected on a Thursday or Friday, will have their brown bins collected with their blue bin.

The council says the normal weekly collection for brown bins cannot resume yet as the neighbourhood service staff team, who cover refuse collection, recycling centres, street cleaning, parks and cemeteries, remain 25 per cent down due to the pandemic and national guidelines on shielding.

The measures for brown bin collections have also been put in place to reduce the volume taken to the garden and food waste site during one week, keeping it below the weekly maximum.

Green, blue and grey bins are now back on the normal three week collection cycle, so for July, as well as the brown bin collections explained above, it will be:

• w/c Monday 6 July - green (plastic, cans and bottles) bin collections on your normal collection day

• w/c Monday 13 July - blue (paper and cardboard) on your normal collection day

• w/c Monday 20 July - grey (non-recyclable) bin collection on your normal collection day

• w/c Monday 27 July - green (plastic, cans and bottles) bin collections on your normal collection day
