East Renfrewshire employers have been urged to sign up to the Disability Confident Scheme and open up their workforce to disabled people.
That was the message from local MP Kirsten Oswald, who co-chairs the Westminster All-Party Group for Young Disabled People.
She is supporting the scheme to encourage firms to offer opportunities to disabled jobseekers, including work experience, apprenticeships, work trials and employment.
Kirsten said: “Disabled people make up a fifth of the working age population and local employers could be missing out on a large proportion of the talent in our community if they are not tapping in to every area of the employment market.”
“The support and advice provided by the Disability Confident scheme is extremely welcome.”
More than 3,700 businesses have signed up to be Disability Confident so far.
