Police probe death of two brothers in Newton Mearns

Police have launched an investigation after the death of two brothers in Newton Mearns.

The body of John Mitchell, 29, was discovered in Castle Road at about 3.15pm on Sunday, August 5.

A short time later his brother Scott, 28, was found in a property in nearby Moorhill Crescent.

Tributes have been paid to the brothers on social media.

Police Scotland said the cause of both deaths was yet to be established but one line of inquiry was that they may be drugs-related.

A spokesman said: “Around 3.15pm on Sunday, August 5, police received a report that a 29-year-old man had died within a property in Castle Road, Newton Mearns. Emergency services attended and a post mortem examination will be carried out in due course to establish the cause of death.

“On making further enquiries officers also attended at a property in Moorhill Crescent, also in Newton Mearns.

“On arrival, officers discovered the body of a 28 year old man.

“A police investigation is underway to establish how both men died and enquiries are ongoing. One line of inquiry is that the deaths may be drug related.
