North Lanarkshire Council wants to create a new 46-space car park in Eredine Place in Stepps.

The aim is to increase parking for Stepps railway station.

But Stepps Community Council and residents have raised concerns about the proposals.

Now the council has written to councillors asking if their thoughts on the application are the same as those in the community.

The letter says that if all members are of the same opinion then the application for the site will be withdrawn.

Residents say the open greenspace is regularly used by children in the area to play, it would mean more traffic coming into the area and is too far away from the station to be convenient for rail users.

They are also concerned that when the car park is full, drivers could park in front of their homes and that a footpath across the site to the pedestrian bridge spanning Cumbernauld Road would be removed.

North Lanarkshire Council said it is aware of the objections and its roads team are discussing it further with local members.
