Police Scotland have launched their annual Festive Campaign within East Renfrewshire alongside a variety of partner agencies and local businesses.
The festive period is traditionally a time of the year that can see a rise in demand for emergency services.
Additional events will take place within East Renfrewshire which will attract members of the public, due to the time of year.
The overall objective of the Festive Campaign mirrors the purpose of Police Scotland, namely; to improve the safety and wellbeing of people, places and communities in East Renfrewshire.
The campaign is split into three sections; Shop Safe, Party Safe and Home Safe. All three of which are just as important as each each other.
Examples for each are as follows;
Shop safe - High value product placement within the shop, customers being vigilant when withdrawing large amounts of cash, remaining vigilant in regards to pick-pocketing.
Party safe - Organise a safe route home, don’t leave any persons from your group alone whilst intoxicated, have plenty of charge in your mobile telephone.
Home safe - Make sure all doors and windows are locked especially when presents are under your tree, don’t leave your car running in order to defrost your windscreen whilst you return within your home address, be vigilant of any vehicles / persons observed within your local area who appear to be prowling.
Achieving these three objectives is not the sole responsibility of the police and as such the co-operation of a wide range of partners across East Renfrewshire has been encouraged and agreed.
Sgt Brian Eaglesham of the Local Problem Solving Team, said: “We are working together with numerous partners to ensure that we are keeping people safe within East Renfrewshire during the Festive period.
“I would encourage people to enjoy the Festive period with their family and friends but ensure you plan your nights out and get home safely. Also, be vigilant when out shopping and ensure your homes are locked and secure.
“Officers from the Local Problem Solving Team will be out on foot patrol throughout the day during this Festive Campaign within busy areas such as Clarkston Main Street, Fenwick Road, The Avenue shopping centre and Main Street, Barrhead.
“Furthermore, the officers have already conducted a number a pop-up events distributing leaflets and providing advice regarding home security. They still have a few more events to come at Waitrose and The Avenue Shopping Centre, so please feel free to come along and talk to your local officers.”
Police can be contacted on 101 or 999 in case of an emergency.
East Renfrewshire Council also have Ring and Report on 08000130076 which is a free, confidential anti-social behaviour helpline.
