East Renfrewshire Council is expanding its free period products initiative, with products now available in over forty venues across the authority.

The roll out follows a pilot in August 2018, when free sanitary products were made available in schools, colleges and universities.

The aim is to help alleviate the effects of period poverty, promote equality and reduce stigma around periods. The Council is working in partnership with Hey Girls to provide a range of products in venues throughout the area.

The products are freely available for residents to access in venue toilets and in some cases other areas of the venue such as the reception. Venues include libraries, Barrhead and Eastwood Health Centres, community halls and sports facilities including The Foundry and Eastwood Park. At present, the following products are available:

∙ Packets of day and night towels

∙ Boxes of 16 super and regular tampons

∙ Individual wrapped towels and tampons

∙ Menstrual cups

∙ Cloth pads
