Talented folks at Glasgow Music Theatre are back in the Eastwood Park Theatre spotlight this week — and reaching for ever higher heights.
The am dram group’s now annual Eastwood show follows successful productions like Fame, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas and West Side Story — and this time it’s lights up on Washington Heights.
Life is a struggle on the streets, where Latin rhythms and hip hop moves distract from the rising temperatures — and rising rent too.
Usnavi runs a corner store and dreams of returning home to the Caribbean — or at least asking the lovely Vanessa out on a date.
Meanwhile, Kevin and Camila are struggling to pay for daughter Nina’s education, and Benny sets out to prove he’s not a troublemaker anymore.
But all of that could change when a winning lottery ticket opens new doors for the whole community...
GMT describe In the Heights as Step Up meets West Side Story, blending hip hop, rap, salsa and pop ballads — and collecting a few prizes along the way, including a Tony Award and a Grammy for the original Broadway cast.
A GMT representative commented that the group is “thrilled to be able to bring the Glasgow premiere of this firecracker show to a Scottish audience ahead of any west end transfer for UK tour”.
You heard it here first, then — and you’ll see it at Eastwood Park first too, with In the Heights running January 26-30 (Tuesday - Saturday).
Tickets are £10-£15, available from 577 4956 or www.eastwoodparktheatre.co.uk/boxoffice.
