MP praises postal workers

With this coming Christmas being her first as Lanark and Hamilton East’s Member of Parliament, Angela Crawley thought she’d look in on Lanark’s postal service workers before things got TOO busy with tens of thousands of cards and parcels a day coming through the already busy Home Street base.

The MP, elected earlier this year, was given a guided tour of the Royal Mail delivery office and saw what went into providing our wide rural area with a fast and efficient service.

She was suitably impressed by what she saw during her visit on Friday when she learned that the Lanark office handles an amazing 65,000 pieces of mail every day in the month of December in the run-up to Christmas.

She told the Gazette after the tour: “It was fantastic to be shown around the delivery office and see how things work.

“I couldn’t believe that a standard delivery office like Lanark handles so many pieces of mail a day at this time of year.

“The systems are ingenious and the staff are working really hard to make sure everyone gets the things they need in the run up to the festive period.”
