Money team say get in touch over benefits changes

A new money advice service set up by East Renfrewshire Council is urging residents to come forward for support on welfare reform and benefits changes.

The Money Advice and Rights Team (MART) offer free, confidential advice on benefits and debt management.

Councillor Ian McAlpine, convener for corporate services, said: “A lot of people are concerned about the introduction of Universal Credit on February 15.

“As a general rule, it means single people who are required to look for work will claim this new benefit instead of job seekers allowance — and there will be further changes to benefits for couples and families later.

“Please don’t feel you are alone with money concerns. We can help you resolve financial problems and also access any money you may be entitled to on 0800 052 1023 or”
