The morning procession was awash with colour with the participants being led through the streets by this year’s Chieftain, Winter Olympian Jackie Lockhart.

It was then the crowning of the Tartan Queen Rhea Hood. Rhea was joined by Princesses Charlie Wilson and Brooke Sharkey together with Clansmen Curtis Smith and Jamie Fletcher.

Highland Games chairman David Abercrombie said: “What a fantastic day we had. For the second successive year we had glorious sunshine and what seemed like a bigger village turnout than ever.

“A big thanks from the committee to all who took part this year, from the Chieftain’s procession to the decorated shop windows, garden and scarecrows; this is what community spirit is all about!

“The Lesmahagow Games is the only one remaining in South Lanarkshire and now offers free entry to all.

“This year we had many overseas visitors from America, Holland, Germany and even a stag party group from France taking part in the heavyweight events!

The RSPBA pipe band contest, highland dancing and sideshows completed the line-up for what was a great day out on The Glebe.

David added: “Many thanks for a superb team effort from the committee and to all our key sponsors and supporters. We couldn’t do it without you.”

Freelance photographer Sarah Peters was on hand to capture the action for the Gazette and her pictures are featured in our slideshow, created for readers by Johnston Press communities hub deputy editor Julie Currie. Enjoy folks!!
